Legends Part 1

It's been a little while since I last blogged. There's been a lot going on, just have needed time to synthesize the information, sort through videos and pictures, and oh yeah I do have a job that pays the bills, completely unrelated to music or blogging. Speaking of which, I've made a total of $2.90 on Google Ads and Amazon / CDBaby album sales, thank you very much. I do have some ideas about future projects, which I will keep you posted on, that might help pay a bill or two. Or at least pay for my concert tickets, liquor and CDs.

So back to actual events. There's just too much to fit into one post. There has been a lot of sadness in Austin over the last week, over the passing of Poodie Locke and Stephen Bruton. There has been a lot of honoring the memories of these Austin legends. Meanwhile the Living Legends persevere, and Future Legends are striving to make their mark. So the theme for the next few posts is Legends. I will try to space them out so as not to overwhelm anyone with too much required reading. The theme of this post is Future Legends.

On March 2 we attended the Sin City Social Club concert at the Scoot Inn, with headliners, my favorites, The Mother Truckers. These guys are the greatest! I told y'all before about the last time we saw Josh and Zee at the Scoot Inn, when they weren't even performing. They are not only extremely talented performers, they are just good people.

The first special guest of the evening was Woodsboss, who I had not seen before but they really kicked ass, with Molly Salvi's southern angel voice, Brian Salvi tearin' it up on the fiddle, and Mario Matteoli smokin' on guitar. This band formed "out of the ashes" of the Weary Boys, with more of an emphasis on country rock.

Next was Shurman, featuring frontman, songwriter and Mr. Personality Aaron Beavers. This group is recently transplanted from L.A., although Aaron was originally from Texas. Their song "Country Ain't Country" really captures the spirit of so-called "alternative" country.

And of course, The Mother Truckers were The Mother Truckers, with Teal's powerhouse of a voice, Josh's axe-shredding, and just plain high energy.

The grand finale of the evening was a rip-roaring performance of "Highway to Hell": members of The Mother Truckers, Shurman, the Sin City Social Club, and M&S Management all got on stage, passed around a tequila bottle, and sang along. I took video of the whole thing - the picture quality is not greatest due to the lighting, which I spent some time trying to touch up, but the energy of the music and the comraderie and the crowd bursts through with enough color and light it doesn't matter. Teal and Josh loved it so much they have asked me for the DVD! Which I will give them as soon as it's made. I'm telling you these guys are Legends in the making. I am honored to be docublogging their activities.
