This is completely INSANE! Apparently they showed up last week with their decibel meters while the Gourds were playing and issued a warning. They showed up again last night during Sahara Smith's set, the opening for Jimmy LaFave, and shut it down. Jimmy LaFave never got to play.
Shady Grove is in the process of applying for a variance to the 75-decibel limit set for restaurants, but that may not be reviewed by the city for another month. So much for the fast-tracking of these applications that was promised.
Said Shady Grove owner Mike Young: "We’re gonna be back with live music next Thursday and the Thursday after that. I’ll pay the bands even if they only play five minutes. We’re not gonna give up the fight.”

The ordinance exists because the ANC got their city council member elected; and then Jeff Jack was finally free to get it done. Check this list of comments from the minutes of one of the more heavily attended task force meetings:

It’s not condo dwellers; it’s not Californians. (The complainant this time might have been either; but no matter who they were, they were empowered by a group of long-time near-downtown single-family-homeowners who have been trying to shut down music in the area for a LOOOOONG time).
